University of Huddersfield

Wooldale & Huddersfield Quaker Meetings are launching a new venture at the start of the 2019/20 academic year. Students & staff will have their own lunchtime Quaker Meeting at the Faith Centre. It is an opportunity for a period of stillness in the busy day with a bite to eat afterwards. It is being piloted through the autumn term with the hope that it will become a permanent feature of campus life.

During a guided meditation named people are ‘held in the Light’.

Writing Group

3rd Monday 7.30pm.

We meet to write on topics that help us understand ourselves and reflect on our lives. It is frequently hilarious! This is not a creative writing group as such. We write for 20-25 minutes on a topic that has been agreed by the group in advance, then share the work by reading it out.

Experiment with Light Group

4th Monday 2.30pm.

This is a Quaker discipline which uses a guided meditation based on the writings of early Quakers, followed by time to reflect on our own. We use journaling, drawing and other aids as we find useful. Finally we share our experience of the meditation with the rest of the group.

This no longer meets but there is a group at High Flatts Meeting. Contact Judith for further details.
