University Meeting for Worship

flyer image simply quiet 3 9 19 pngWooldale and Huddersfield Meetings are looking forward to the start of the academic year with a spring in our step. We are preparing a warm welcome for students and staff who are starting at the University of Huddersfield next term. We have decided to start a new Quaker Meeting there.

We know it’s a big deal leaving home for the first time, or turning up in a place where you don’t know anyone. We’re getting together at the Faith Centre on campus on Tuesday lunchtimes, for a brief Meeting for Worship, then sharing something to eat, which we’ll provide. It’ll give newcomers the chance to meet some other like-minded people and to know that you’ll be made very welcome by other Quakers in the area. We hope you won’t feel like a stranger in town for long. Huddersfield’s a very friendly place to live.

People are very welcome to get in touch before term-time about coming along. If you’ve a question that a bit of local knowledge could solve, we’ll see what we can do to help.

Tuesdays from October 1st, 12.25-1.10pm, The Faith Centre, University of Huddersfield.

We look forward to meeting you!

Please note that owing to the University’s security protocols, only staff and students of the University of Huddersfield and a group of named Friends can participate in this meeting for the time being.

We meet to write on topics that help us understand ourselves and reflect on our lives. It is frequently hilarious! This is not a creative writing group as such. We write for 20-25 minutes on a topic that has been agreed by the group in advance, then share the work by reading it out.

Experiment with Light Group

This is a Quaker discipline which uses a guided meditation based on the writings of early Quakers, followed by time to reflect on our own. We use journaling, drawing and other aids as we find useful. Finally we share our experience of the meditation with the rest of the group.

This no longer meets at Wooldale Meeting but there is a group at High Flatts Meeting. Contact Judith for further details.
